From Beginning to END–Privileges of Aging Conclusion

imageI am someplace between my beginning and end, somewhere between (as someone else said) Pampers and Depends, closer to the latter than I intend.

Still there is still time. There is still grace, even with wrinkles on body and face.

I am privileged to age, allowed just to be, throwing off youth’s shackles, allowed to be free, coming to terms with what it means to be me.

No sense in complaining about aches and pains. Besides which, who cares and what would that gain.

My mind remains functional, some of the time, my spirit hungry, like the caterpillar in Eric Carle’s rhyme.

I am hungrier now than I’ve ever been, wanting knowledge, wisdom, an expanding circle of friends.

I want to open my arms wide and let people in, but then I hunger for solitude time to reboot. I know what I just said will give someone a hoot.

Paradoxical, yes, but no need to impress, what indeed is success?

To sum it all up, I am privileged and pleased. And in William Purkey’s words, from a card I received:

“You’ve gotta dance like there’s nobody watching,
Love like you’ll never be hurt,
Sing like there’s nobody listening,
And live like it’s heaven on earth.”

imageSo with all that dancing, loving, singing, living to do, I’d better check out aisle with Depends, because I am sure to be laughing and we know how that ends.

So Glad God’s Constant, because I am not.

“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” (‭Revelation‬ ‭1‬:‭8‬ NKJV)
